What are DOMS?
Delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS) is the pain and stiffness felt in your muscles after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise🤓
DOMS is felt most strongly 24 to 72 hours after the exercise. The mechanism is not completely understood, but the pain is ultimately thought to be a result of micro-trauma (mechanical damage at a very small scale) to the muscles being exercised.
After such exercise, your muscle adapts rapidly to prevent soreness if and when the exercise is repeated. This is called the "repeated-bout effect”, and is the reason you don’t get the same intensity of soreness each time. Which is great news for us all 👏🏼!
DOMS can be reduced by ensuring that you gradually increase the intensity of a new exercise program. Remember, it takes time and practice to build the muscles and control you want and the journey can be tough🏋🏼‍♂️.
In the end the results can be perfect, Happy Training!
