What are Shin Splints?
Shin splints is a medical term used to diagnose pain in the front of your lower legs (shin’s)
Shin splints are often seen in people who exercise, run and walk long distances🏃♀️
Shin splints can be extremely painful and often the pain worsen’s the more you exercise, run or walk meaning rest is required 😞
Shin splints often occur when the connective tissue (periosteum) around the shin bones becomes overloaded and inflamed. This causes pain up through the shin area. Occasionally the pain can be caused by a stress fracture in the shin bone itself, so we would always recommended seeing a professional if you have shin splints.
Common causes of shin splints are:
🏃♂️Sudden increase in activity/distance
🏃♂️Running on a hard or uneven surface
🏃♂️Wearing incorrect, worn or poor footwear
🏃♂️Tightness in the calf muscles
Shin splints are easily avoidable and treatable!
